The plant comprised of 7500 m3 / 1,540 metric tonnes, of breakbulk and 61 x FEU’s. It shipped on a single voyage directly to Mexico from New Zealand.
Overview:
Freight Traders Ltd (New Zealand) (FTL) recently exported various dismantled items from a renowned Steel plant in New Zealand. A proposal was submitted and after careful consideration the tender was awarded to to jointly transport and ship the plant from New Zealand site to Mexico site with our Mexican agent.
After months of logistic planning the plant was dismantled and transported to Auckland Port one of NZs largest container and international trade ports, and onto Port to Lazaro Cardenas Mexico where RMSC arranged full importation / customs clearance and delivery to site, for successful completion.

NZ One site logistic co-ordination
The plant was dismantled in stages and spread over a 1 hectare site. Due to tight restrictions on port space, the plant needed to be delivered in the sequence of vessel loading – requiring ongoing site supervision and planning for daily transport.
NZ Local Transport
The plant was dismantled to more than 130 x truck loads from site to port, most of which required multiple pilots / permits and escorts.Trailers needed to be constantly re-configured to adapt to the changing dimensions of the cargo as it was dismantled. The plant took 12 working days to completely deliver to the port
NZ Port Handling
FTL arrange all port receivables / offloading / handing / marshalling / storage / Customs formalities / Cargo cleaning where required and equipment hire.
Shipping
The shipment was stowed under deck and took 4 x shifts to complete. Due to the nature of the cargo lashing points were required to weld onto some of the pces. The vessel sailed directly to Mexico – the transit time was 18 x days from port to port.
Mexican Ship Agency
Freight Traders Ltd agent - Representaciones Marítimas S.A. de C.V. (Mexico) acted as ships agent for the vessel attending the needs of the vessel and master, helping to facilitate all facets of vessel arrival incl berth, sludge & crew change.
Mexican Port Handling
The plant was discharged from the vessel in 2.5 days and unloaded without incident. Services included welding services, unlashing, stevedoring, receiving, marshalling, and load out. FTL also facilitated 30 x days free storage at the port to assist with the delivery schedule given the destination sites location.
Mexican Transport
FTL in conjunction with RMSC arranged all transport from Port to Lazaro Cardenas Mexico to inland and Rail to site approx. 751 kms from the port. The cargo was delivered on budget on time.
